"my voice has strengthened as a result of this treatment"

About: Ayrshire & Arran Community Services / Speech and language therapy Crosshouse Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat

(as a service user),

A number of years ago my voice started to weaken, at times disappearing completely.  Home visits from speech therapist were helpful.  I carried out the voice exercises as prescribed, but I still still needed further help to restore power into my speech.  Accordingly it was suggested that I might benefit from Botox injected directly into my voice box.

I am senior citizen and approached the prospect of the Botox injection not without some trepidation.  However the friendliness, professionalism and empathy shown by members of staff made the experience more endurable than it might otherwise have been.

I am happy to report that my voice has strengthened as a result of this treatment.  Having been involved in public speaking over many years, my voice has been an important component in my professional and family life.

I am grateful that Botox injections are available to me. Life would be much less manageable were this treatment ever to be withdrawn.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear quebecmr74,

Thank you so much for taking time to share this with us. I understand why you would be reticent initially, but it is marvellous that it has made such a difference to your voice and indeed, your life. I will be delighted to pass this to the team and I am sure they will be delighted to read about how much benefit you have received form the treatment.

Like you, speaking is a very important to me and I know I would struggle if my voice was weaker (for whatever reason). Many of my friends and family may think differently of course.

Long may the treatment be successful and continued for you and others.

Best wishes,

Eunice
