My mother fell on ice, fracturing her femur. She was treated in Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy and due to her age and the type of fracture, it was decided that it was best for her to have a plaster cast, full leg, non-weightbearing for 8 weeks. She spent one week in hopital and was discharged on Christmas Eve, and then attended the OPD for follow up. The nursing and medical staff were excellent and the care she received was superb. The physiotherapist visited at home and enabled her to get mobile again. She is now having hydrotherapy in Queen Margaret Hospital. We are so thankful to all the staff at both hospitals who looked after her. Although we had two quite negative experiences - one with a member of the ambulance staff who we felt did not give my mother the correct care, and an issue due to my mother being discharged without a care package in place - we are very thankful to everyone who helped my mother to recover from such a traumatic event in her life.
We would value the opportunity to explore why her discharge from the Victoria Hospital was not managed properly.
