"Maternity unit floor 1"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital / Maternity care

I gave birth to my daughter on March 6th 2019. The midwife who helped deliver my baby was absolutely amazing. However when I got moved down to the first floor the staff were unbelievably disgraceful!! I have never received such disgusting service in my life! She’s my first and I had no clue how to latch her on to breastfeed her and when asked for help from the night shift staff the response was disgraceful! I waited a whole 2 hours whilst my baby was crying for a feed for someone to come and help me no one ended up coming back to me and on that time my daughter had cried herself to sleep. I was so so so upset and saddened at the service from the nhs in England i wanted to leave the next day, however i wasn’t discharged till 2 days after, and the whole time the night shift staff failed me as I never got to latch my daughter on and I had to end up giving her formula which she is currently on. I am just shocked and appalled at the service it’s put me off ever coming back to the royal stoke maternity unit! They say their so big on helping mothers latch their babies on but in reality it’s a joke, I wish I would have gone to the Stafford hospital to have my baby. Till this day I get emotional thinking about it, because I wouldn’t ever wish it upon any mother to go through what I did, to see your child crying and unsettled because you can’t feed them is such a disheartening feeling, I cried for weeks on end about this because it really has just put me off the nhs in England. I really do hope someone see’s this and is able to train their night shift staff better at helping mothers as it’s already an emotional time for them and it doesn’t help to be treated rudely and utterly disrespectfully to, not only that but check up on each individual before you discharge them, because I was in no state to be discharged, but I couldn’t stand being there for a minute longer.
