My husband recently had a cataract operation, preceded by a visit to the eye department. He was delighted with all aspects of his care.
However, I had to accompany him to both the preliminary appointment and on the day of his operation, and I am extremely phobic about anything to do with eyes so this was quite a challenge for me. My experience on the first visit was made a lot worse by numerous posters on display in the eye department with illustrations of various èye conditions etc, which I could not bear to look at. This made the visit much more difficult for me, even though I wasn't a patient, and I can't think that it would be very reassuring for patients either. My husband will be returning to have the other eye operated on, but I dread having to try and avoid seeing these pictures. Would it be possible to replace them with pictures more likely to put patients and other visitors into a more relaxed state of mind? If patients need or want to view these posters, they could be made available in booklet form.
