"Admission to the S.e.a.l ward"

About: Victoria Hospital / SEAL (Surgical Elective Admission Lounge)

(as a service user),

I was greeted by a lovely nurse, lynne who went over things with me, I had to fast from midnight the evening before my operation, on administration at 8am I was told I was second on the list, then I was informed I was third, having to wait almost 8 hours, in the sitting room, before surgery, by this time I was in pain and also started to wilt, surly a better system could be in place to wait at home, before coming in, if we are having to have surgery in the afternoon it would be more comfortable and not get so stressed. I had fantastic care from the nurse, even a wee cuddle from her to wish me all the best, she was great. Made me feel cared for, thanks again lynne. My surgery was a success. x

Hi Special care,

Firstly thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback via Care Opinion.

Thanks very much for leaving some lovely thoughts for our Healthcare Support Worker; Lynne; who we feel is a great asset. I will make sure she is aware of your thoughts and I'm sure she will be delighted when she hears them.

On another level, I am sorry that you have been waiting for an extended period of time whilst waiting on your procedure. I cannot comment specifically as I don't know the date you were in, however I can let you know is that sometimes delays can happen due to emergencies coming in as well as changes in surgical lists. This however does not excuse a lengthy wait and again I apologise for this.

I believe your suggestion is very valid so what I am going to do, is bring your thoughts and comments regarding a delayed admission time (from am to pm) to the Day Surgery Users Group, and present an argument for your case. If we make a change surrounding your suggestion, I will update you here on this page, however should you prefer to discuss your comments further, I would be glad to discuss them with you and you could phone me on extn 29907 at Victoria Hospital.

Once again, I'm very glad Lynne was in the position to give you a wee hug and make you feel cared for. May I also wish you a speedy recovery from your surgery.

Kind regards
