"Absolutely fantastic care from staff at A&E and on ward"

About: Northwick Park Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Absolutely fantastic care from the DOCTORS AND NURSES AND CATERING staff during my visit at A&E and stay on ward for a illness of a sensitive nature

I had been refused care from another hospital which I was sectioned in, subsequently mistreated by staff and eventually taken to court and incorrectly left to go home when i was suffering mental health issues,

Not wanting to break bail conditions and withdrawing from a substance i visited Northwick Park A&E where i explained my situation and was asked to wait in a Purple seating area of the waiting room (I was experiencing heart palpitations etc) I was seen within 25 mins where we discovered it was nothing life fretting but of concern

(My previous visit at a more central hospital used to dealing with GBL usage had already recognised is an issue)

They ran a few more ECG and decided there was cause for concern and put me in a triage room and this is where my wait did become a bit long sat in a chair but i was offered food and checked on and actually slept.

Once a Doctor came and spoke to me about a few issues which was affecting my main reason for visiting i was put into an A&E observation room where my treatment begun and i was cared primarily by a Nurse Called Nicola who is an absolute angel.

She reassured me but with hose still information, when more info was required from a Doctor she was prompt was getting that info and feeding it back, the ward was a chaotic with another 2 patients who had police/security attendance for their own reasons but Nicola didn’t let this show in her care for me and actually apologised before her shift end that she couldn’t have been there for me more.

During her shift the next day when I was still on the ward in A&E she came back to check on how i was doing and see if If there was anything she could do to assist which was absolutely fantastic service.

Whenever i saw Nicola talking with patients (or their visitors with their permission) or it was with dignity and respect and compassion certainly as mine were.

My following Doctors explained everything very well and went out of their way to ensure health issues which certainly needed addressing but i was under the care if another healthcare for were dealt with and i was offered prompt appointments to have them followed up again with my permission.

Once admitted on a ward the nurses and doctors were fantastic and all at dealing with a substance misuse that they aren’t familiar at dealing with.

I can’t thank this hospital and staff enough.

Thank you for taking the time to give such specific feedback: it really helps us to know what we are doing well and where we can improve. I will make sure that Nurse Nicola and her managers hear about this.

I am so pleased to hear that you had such good care overall and hope you are continuing to recover well.

Best wishes

Sue
