"Labour Induction - different levels of care"

About: Victoria Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I went in for induction in May 2019. The day shift midwives, auxiliaries and domestics I encountered were all fantastic! The midwives were knowledgeable and explained everything very well.

Once the night shift staff came on, I was more or less left to my own devices and once I was in proper labour, I was immediately strapped to a monitor and felt unable to move. I was also in a lot of pain. I was 9.5 cms dilated when one of the midwives checked on me and I had no options for pain relief. Not even gas and air, as this was not set up. I got into quite a panic during the pushing stage because of the pain and the way I was tearing. The auxiliary on the night shift was lovely, she was very kind.

The morning after my baby was born, everyone I met was amazing. The midwife who was on in the morning was caring and just amazing at her job. The lovely lady who did the lunch round was also very helpful to me and I couldn't thank her enough for getting me a plain cheese sandwich, even though this wasn't an option.

Dear Sazydoll, thank you for taking the time to provide us with the feedback on your experience here in NHS Fife maternity service.

I am so sorry that your experience of your care from the night team is as you describe, this is not what we would expect to happen.

I am glad that you experienced such positive care outwith that time. It would be helpful for us if we could let us know who you are so that we can look into your care experience further, it would be helpful if you could contact Fife patient relations team with your details and we could then investigate further.

Best wishes to you and your new baby

Yours sincerely, Aileen
