My experience of admission to A & E first and then Ward 2 were mixed the individual staff members did their absolute best, but there seemed to be disconnect in organisation between all the departments and referral systems
One nurse treating me complained of all the “useless questionnaires” they were told to complete and she said it took time away from patients and added stress.
Chaos reigned during my visit!
During the night a doctor told me I’d need a procedure in the morning which required fasting, but she had requested a saline drip.
I asked the nurse treating me for this, the forgot.
Before going off duty she told me “oh I’m sorry
I was too busy” she then put up a saline drip before going off duty by which time I was gasping for a drink of water
On the positives, two nurses who were not assigned to me were lovely and so kind.
One brought me a bed in the cubicle Another in the morning a sister was absolutely wonderful and arranged for me to have a the test to check for ulcers without the delay or lack of concern the other doctors showed! She was an amazing nurse. On the ward after the test I had problems because the staff following protocols said I had to stay in over the weekend because there was no doctor to write my prescription even Though I was well enough to leave
So I was told I couldn’t leave because no one was on duty to sign off and not because I needed extra tests or treatment despite previous night shortage of beds.
