I am disappointed and concerned about inter departmental co-operation and the associated impact on patient care.
Despite a request from a consultant l am advised that the Ear Nose and Throat Department are refusing to carry out an examination of my mother who is currently an inpatient within Crosshouse Hospital. My mother is in her eighties and is suffering with lightheadedness and dizziness and the consultant has serious concerns that she is at risk of falling when discharged. The consultant has a desire to determine whether the problem is related to her inner ear hence the referral to the E, N and T Department.
I am advised that at present she will require to attend the E N and T Department as an outpatient. Given the potential delay and risk of falling, which could have subsequent implications for the health service, l find it strange why this matter cannot be investigated while she is in hospital and welcome your comments. Thank you.
