"They don't understand how much that meant"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service

(as the patient),

I unfortunately needed to call 999. I wasn't keeping well, sore chest, felt dizzy and generally unwell and I am only 25 but my heart rate was all over the place I was slightly frightened as it wasn't normal for my age. Two paramedics turned up. They made me feel safe and that I was getting the best possible care - I think their names were Martin and David.

Through my whole life I have had a few ambulances but these pair are the BEST I've met. I was going to need transported to hospital but with four kids under the age of 7, and with a husband that couldn't get back from work, the ambulance crew were so helpful. They called my GP to see if I could be seen by them before rushing four young kids into A&E.

Luckily my GP agreed to see me so the paramedics helped me get all the children prepped and gave me a lift to the surgery and done handover with the doctor, the pair of them watched my children in the waiting room whilst I went in to see the doctor to save the kids causing me extra stress and so the doctor could hear my chest without screaming children. When I got out of the doctors office they both made sure I had everything I needed, paracetamol and my prescription. I couldn't thank those guys enough they don't understand how much that meant to me that they went out their way to help a young family struggling and a young mum with extreme anxiety.

I take my hat off to those guys - they deserve a medal and deserve to be recognised. Best experience I've ever had with any health professionals. May I also add how Martin made sure that I knew I could call an ambulance at any time if I get any worse which gave me so much reassurance that I didn't have to feel guilty. So thank you guys, keep up the hard work 😀

Dear AnxiousMother25,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback on CareOpinion. I am so sorry that you had reason to use our service, it sounds like you experienced a terrifying situation and I really hope that you are now on the road to a full recovery.

I am however really pleased to read about your experience. It is not always about the Ambulance Service turning up, administering medication, dealing with major trauma, performing CPR and all of the jobs you read about in the paper, there is often so much more going on in peoples mind than what is happening to them specifically and you sum it up perfectly in your story. Feeling so unwell and having 4 children under the age of 7 must have been very frightening. It would seem that the staff have really gone the extra mile and I would love to pass this on to them and their manager to say well done. Would you be able to email me at alan.martin2@nhs.net and provide me with details of the job? Just the time, date and address the ambulance attended, and your name.

I wish you all the very best and thanks again!

Alan
