Very disappointing experience today. My my wife was booked in for a routine procedure. When we urned up, her name was written in handwritten text on the bottom of a printed list which set alarm bells ringing. Having been up since 5am in order to eat and drink, we checked her in at 10;45 am. We both work busy jobs and had taken holiday allocation to make this appointment. It got to around 3pm when I started worrying. The nurses on the ward gave no proactive communication to us as to what was going on. Due to the wait, my wife was suffering from anxiety and I asked a nurse for reassurance. This took an hour once the rest of the ward was empty. Anyway, 5:30pm came around, 12 hours after my wife’s last drink. The consultant then came up and said the operation would have to be cancelled. It was a joy to have to pay for all day parking, my lunch, and both of our annual leave from work to sit in a ward and be ignored. I now won’t be able to accompany her if and when her revisit is to happen. Absolutely appalled and very much looking forward to a contact for an official compliant and findings of an internal review.
"Distinct lack of communication"
