Visited the new ED. Fabulous new building. Could do with a clock in the waiting room. The doctor , some of the nurses and health assistants were excellent - providing information and seeking consent before carrying our procedures. Unfortunately at the first point of contact although both nurses were kind I had a blood pressure monitor & other things attached to me without a word being said. Sadly for me I have had a lot of medical treatment - and I need to know about treatment/ monitoring and to give my consent. Otherwise it just feels like being poked & grabbed! They would also do well to remember that not everyone finds being patted a ‘comfort’ or acceptable. I find it patronising. They were not the only ones to fail to explain or inform us of what they were doing or to ask if they had permission to do it. Finally make sure staff turn off the computer screen before you leave a cubicle - my husband & I were left with a screen full of the last persons medical notes - name, age, address, details of reason for their visit to hospital. Who knows whether we may have been able to look further if we were that sort of person. When we pointed this out to a nurse we were greeted with absolute silence - before she turned the screen off and left.
"Good facilities - shame about some attitudes"
