"Awful experience at their A&E"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Accident & emergency

This A&E department isn't for for purpose. A doctor told us, during a 10 hour wait to be dealt with from start to finish, that their capacity was about 120 patients, however there were only about 50-60 patients in while I was there and they couldn't cope with that. There are a lot of nurses, who enjoyed talking in the nurses area, but nowhere near enough doctors and this is what created a total bottleneck. Please sort out your staffing levels, a 10 hour stay in A&E is a joke.

Dear Anonymous

I am sorry to hear of the delays you experienced during your recent attendance to the Emergency Department.

All of our patients are important to us, however, we operate a triage system to ensure the critically ill patients are seen as a priority. This does have an impact on how quickly we can review other patients in the system.

I have passed your comments on to the Matron for the Emergency Department, however, if you wish to discuss this matter further please contact a member of the Patient Services Team on 0121 424 0808 or you can email your concerns to uhb-tr.Complaints-ConcernsandCompliments@nhs.net who can then take the necessary action.

Kind regards

The Patient Experience Team
