My mum in law is in hospital very poorly and on oxygen. While I respect that staff are in short supply etc the ward does state that respect and dignity is paramount. I am inclined to think this is lip service as on finding my mother in law unable to get out of bed due to cot sides being up and dinner on her table .. which I hasten to add was out of her reach. she was unwashed, not able to have cleaned her teeth or change into clean clothes herself. Where is the basic nursing care, respect and dignity that is stated. We do not live nearby and in her hour of need would hopefully be able to trust that her needs are met within the NHS. Are nurses not trained anymore to attend to these very basic levels of care which retain dignity and moral and comfort by rearrangement of pillows etc.
I hope this highlights issues that may bring about change to match what a ward suggests .. a patient is treated with dignity and respect.
