"Getting an appointment is a nightmare"

About: The Muswell Hill Practice

Presumably this surgery simply has taken on too many patients, getting an appointment is only possible same day and if you have ability to phone at 8am relentlessly. On average it takes me 100 attempts to finally get through ( half an hour plus of my time ) and by then I'm very lucky if all the appointments haven't been taken. How are the elderly and people with young babies such as myself supposed to cope with this? See a different doctor every time ago about my sons eczema, they all have different advice and guidance. Inconsistent.

I am not sure the public are aware how little control practices have over registering new patients.

NHS England make it very difficult for a practice to close to new patients who have moved into the practice area and are eligible for NHS care.

Every practice has a defined area and it is now very difficult to make that smaller because of the shortage of GPs and the public's right to be registered with a GP.

So we register all who are in the area and eligible and they might consult very frequently or not and it is not under our control.

Would be interesting to talk to this patient about eczema, given the tiny number of treatments for this condition, there cant be that much variability.
