"'There are a lot of bank and agency staff at the moment'"

About: Womens Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (Northampton)

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

The sessions are really good and they can be very helpful. Some staff are quite helpful although some aren't, say if you are upset - they don't offer you 5 minutes for a chat. There are a lot of bank and agency staff at the moment on the ward.

The advocates are good and my doctor is good, but sometimes I don't feel listened to and my feelings aren't validated. I just think staff need to change their approach to patients, to show that they care. Some staff don't seem motivated about helping us but some staff are here and you can tell that they genuinely care about you.

Sometimes when you knock on the office door for help staff look at you and then carry on with what they are doing, so we have to carry on knocking and then we get told off for knocking too much. Some people might need supervision to go to the toilet and might need medication and so this isn't good - it’s not fair.

I am sorry to hear that not all your experiences are positive on the unit, we work hard with recruitment to ensure there are regular staff on the units but at times when we have enhanced support there will be a need to use Workchoice. Regular training and supervision is facilitated on the wards and these concerns will be addressed within these.
