"Quick and efficient A&E"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Accident & emergency

Visited A&E on a Sunday after my wife's ankle ballooned in size after an accident. The receptionist took a little while to input my wife's details and nobody offered us help (e.g. a wheelchair) but we were called through very quickly within 10 minutes. A nurse assessed the ankle quickly, offered painkillers and we were sent in a wheelchair to x-ray within 10 minutes. A quick x-ray and then a 5 minute wait in reception to be called back into a cubicle. A junior doctor then examined the ankle and the x-ray and quickly determined we needed to return later that week once the swelling had gone down as the x-ray was not clear. They offered good advice on how to look after the injury and quickly made an appointment for the outpatients clinic later that week. All told we were around 1 hour 30 minutes at Good Hope in total which was amazing for a Sunday and a not critical injury. Will update again after the outpatient visit.

One possible improvement - the drop off car parking area was really full with lots of empty cars so really difficult to park up and drop off my wife who couldn't walk far due to the injury. Perhaps some more spaces, car parking attendants/ticket officers would really help. I had to park on red lines to drop off and pick me wife up which made me nervous but no other option was possible.

Dear Anonymous

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback following your recent experience at Good Hope Hospital A&E department.

I am so pleased to read that you felt your wife was supported throughout and well informed by our staff who do work very hard to ensure a positive patient experience regardless of how busy their workload is.

I will ensure that your feedback is forwarded to the A&E Manager and their team, who I'm sure will be thrilled to read your comments, which I hope is acceptable.

Once again, thank for your feedback and please contact us if you require any other assistance.

Kind regards

Patient Experience Team
