"Ophthalmology"

About: Royal Eye Infirmary / Ophthalmology

I have a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy and have issues with my eyelids not working correctly. I had a ptosis repair done by an excellent Consultant explained everything perfectly, operation complete success and restored a lot of my sight. He also asked questions of his staff some Jr doctors in a non condescending way very very impressed all round. Staff were Helpful and attentive. The only real draw back is the length of time between first consultation and operation seems pointless to have a pre-opp assessment 6-7 months before the operation !

Ben Porter, Clinical Administration Manager for the REI, has responded to say:

It's lovely to hear the patient's experience in surgery was successful and I'm glad alot of the patient's sight has been restored.

Unfortunately, it could be a number of reasons why there was a delay from being pre-assessed to surgery as follows:

1. The type of surgery the patient needed.

2. The surgery may have needed a particular consultant to perform the operation due to the complexity of the condition.

3. The amount of patients on the WL waiting for the same/similar surgery.

I hope this helps explain the delay.

Many Thanks

Ben
