I attended KMH to reports that my mother had been bought in by EMAS after a number of seizures. On arrival I was directed to resus and found her in process of being intubated.
I was taken to the relatives room where I was joined by 'Becky' the CCU consultant. Who was open and honest when saying that my mother was clearly unwell but they didn't know why.
She was transferred to CCU after about an hour, the care she received and the time staff took to keep us updated was greatly appreciated. Becky was again involved in her care on CCU so that unintentional staff rota helped the process.
After 3 days of treatment she was moved onto Ward 34 where again her treatment was great.
The only down side to the whole experience is when a member of staff was caught out telling us things that just weren't true. My mother required a referral to alcohol services, this person stated they had referred but the team had no availability. A phone call later confirmed that she hadn't been referred at all. My mother was discharged with a follow up appointment thankfully.
