"Fracture clinic"

About: Alder Hey Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a service user),

Had an appointment for my son to attend 1 week after he'd broken both bones in his forearm. Appointment was at 10:20 and as per the request in the letter, was there 20 mins before appointment time. 3 and a half hours we waited to be seen! 3 and a half hours past my appointment time. What exactly is going on in the clinic!?! Its appointment based, there should be minimal delay and certainly not  3 5 hrs. Hes back there this week. If we come up against this ridiculous waiting time, my son will be transferred to another hospital.

My son was seen the day he broke his arm, in, triaged, xrayed, seen by ortho and put in a back slab within 2 hrs. He returned the next day for a reduction under ketamine, xray and was home within 2hrs.

Clinic waiting times are ridiculous.

Thank you for taking the time to make this comment.

I am sorry this was your experience - this is certainly not the service we aim to provide patients and families.

If you would like us to investigate this further, please do make contact with the PALS Team giving them details regarding the date and time of the appointment and your son's details and we can review this and feedback to you.

The PALS team can be contacted by calling: 0151 252 5374 or 0151 252 5161; there is also an online form on the Trust internet page.

I will make sure your comment is seen by both the outpatient and orthopaedic team.

I do hope your appointment this week went well.
