"MS Medication review"

About: Victoria Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

I recently attended an appointment in Victoria hospital Kirkcaldy to see my MS nurse regards a medication review and  after the discussion it was advised I needed a blood test but was unable to get one at the time in the  clinic and had to go to my doctors to make the appointment meaning more time off my work, it would have been more convenient if I was able to get my bloods taken  by my MS Nurse at the appointment  as when I went to see my neurologist in January I was  able to get my blood taken then so it would easier if  my MS nurse can take bloods  meaning less time off my work

Dear Keyso,

Many thanks for posting your feedback on care opinion, it is very much appreciated as it is patient experiences which help to continually shape our services and focus on making improvements. Your recent attendance does sound disappointing and unreasonable to expect you to return for blood tests at a later date when you are in a hospital clinic environment and have previously been able to have this service at Consultant review. I believe there is no ability to support this within the Nurse service currently due to pressures on clinic demand and although the MS Specialist Nurse has the skill to take blood it compromises her consulting time when sharing sensitive and important information with patients. However, the MS Specialist Nurse is attempting to improve this by auditing how many people are affected by this issue and is looking at different ways of working to support the necessary maintenance blood test requirements without further impact on patients time.

I am hopeful that you will have a satisfactory outcome at your next appointment. I would be grateful for further feedback of your experience to help monitor the situation.

Best wishes

Esther
