I'm going to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary this week for an eye operation so was invited to an anaesthetic pre-assessment the other day. I understand that a new protocol to do that has recently been introduced.
The process was handled without delay, was very thorough and I was put at ease by Steph and Brenda who took care to ensure that I was at ease. Steph carefully explained that such assessments are planned for all patients undergoing anaesthesia rather than there being any particular personal issue - I found that reassuring.
All of my questions were readily accepted and answered to my complete satisfaction. I was given a pack of leaflets including one inviting me to tell CareOpinion of my experience. The booklet on anaesthesia is particularly detailed and has given me much new information which does my confidence a lot of good!
Thanks ever so much for this new service - a valuable addition to all that NHS do at a time when your resources are no doubt stretched. I hope to be able to report positively after my procedures are completed.
