Took my Mum for a regular clinic appt at IRH this morning & arrived at 8. 45. As usual...nowhere to park, not even a disabled space, not even a double yellow line available! My Mum is only able to walk a very short distance but I was able to drop her (on the pedestrian crossing, because folk were parked in the ‘drop off only’ spaces) at the door then go (after 3 circuits of the main car park) and park at the back of the overflow car park across the road. By the time I then arrived at the hospital she’d been seen so I had to leave her sitting outside in the cold while I made the 5” walk back to the car park to collect the car & return to pick her up. I am not the only person regularly inconvenienced / frustrated by this situation. When I worked at IRH 15-20 years ago staff were not allowed to leave their cars in the main car park all day, why is this not being dealt with? - it’s not fair on service users! I now work in another hospital where staff are not allowed to park immediately outside the main hospital building at all & can face disciplinary action, other hospitals have a 3 hour limit on parking. Staff should (as previously) be parking in the overflow car park(s).
