"Care of family member"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital Dr Gray's Hospital / High Dependancy Unit Dr Gray's Hospital / Medicine for the Elderly Dr Gray's Hospital / Orthopaedics (Bones, Joints and Fractures)

(as a relative),

I would like to pass on my thanks for the care my father in law received whilst in Dr Gray's.

He was initially in ACE unit, then Ward 8 HDU and latterly Ward 6 where he ultimately passed away.

During this time he was under the care of Dr Henderson and her team.  Communication between herself and the family was timely, open, honest and compassionate.  Within ACE unit we felt there was an issue with the lay out of the ward.  On several occasions either a family member or another patient's family member had to alert a member of staff that my father in law was in distress - he was unable to use his buzzer.  It was obvious that the ward was short staffed.  Regardless the staff were as caring as time allowed.

Once he was deemed to be end of life he was transferred to a side room in Ward 6.  The staff there were very caring both to my father in law and the visiting family.

I work within a hospital at times myself, and it was a different, but positive, experience to be on the receiving end of services.

Dear LeekR

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your father in law.

I was heartened to hear that he received such person centred care in a variety of settings within Dr Grays Hospital. Staff morale is boosted when they hear comments such as these and I will forward these onto all the staff concerned

We have been fortunate to secure additional resource to upgrade the ACE Unit and hope with the refurbishment and change of layout that the problems you father in law experienced will be improved. this should be fully completed by end of 2019. (As I write the windows are being replaced)

I am sorry to hear that you felt the ward was short staffed and will investigate this further

Thank you for taking the time to post such positive comments on care opinion at an extremely difficult time for you and your family

Kindest Regards

Yvonne
