"Being a Parent Group Leader (PGL)"

About: Hawtonville Children's Centre

(as a volunteer/advocate),

Following on from the PGL training which I completed in December, I have been a joint PGL for an 8 week 'Being a Parent' course at  Hawtonville Children's Centre. What a privilege to guide 7 parents through the course and encourage them to acknowledge their and their children's feeling, think about parenting strategies to perhaps try for the first time, have some 'me' time and not feel guilty about it and recognise that the perfect parent just doesn't exist! The parents all came with different aspirations and expectations and helping them to take something relevant away each week was certainly a challenge at times but the training course had prepared us well, and we could use our own experiences too. I can't wait for the next course!

Thank you! Both you and your fellow PGL delivered the course so well. Parents feedback has been brilliant. As a whole team we could not be more pleased, and we are currently trying our best to get another course up and running much, much sooner than we anticipated because of the response!

Well done and thank you again.

Hi Cake Crumb

Thanks for posting,

As Parent Group Leaders you give your own time to attend a 60 hour Training course to equip you with the skills to become a parent group leader.

You then go out to your respective communities and deliver an 18 hour parenting course plus preperation time.

All of this time is dedicated by you for FREE and we really appreciate the time and effort that goes into your volunteering role.

The impact you are having is so positive and the messages are being so well recieved. This is because you are parents yoruself who have been through the same experiences and you deliver the course with your parent "hat on"

When we set out with the EPEC project we were really unsure as to whether we could recruit volunteers who would give up so much time but the rersponse we had was amazing and we were so lucky to get really "excellent" volunteers.

Here's looking forward to the next course.
