I completed a written feedback form after my appointment today, however I scored some categories a 3 when it should have been a 2
My appointment lasted approximately 1 minute. The doctor did not introduce himself. I read his name from his NHS card in the card reader on his desk.
The doctor performed a shoulder apprehension test without explaining what he was going to do. Asking me to hold my arm in a certain position and saying 'this might hurt' while stressing my shoulder, & causing considerable pain, is not gaining consent.
I asked after the procedure what it was & why it was performed
I hadn’t needed to take painkillers for my shoulder until today. It would have been nice to have been advised, before it happened, what the test involved, and perhaps I could have been advised to take painkillers before the appointment.
Communication skills, & particularly informed consent, explaining what you are doing and why, before you do it, need to be improved.
