"Hernia operation infection"

About: Fife Community Services / District Nursing NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Queen Margaret Hospital / General Surgery Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 2 (Emergency Surgical)

(as the patient),

After a routine umbilical hernia operation conducted in January 2019 at Queen Margaret Dunfermline I contracted a infection which my local practice was treating with anti biotics. In February 2019 I contacted NHS 24 because infection was seeping out. The doctor I saw at 23: 30 suggested that I go to A& E early the next day. I arrived at A& E Victoria hospital at 08: 00 and within 30 mins. was in a bed in AUK VHK being examined by a surgeon who stated if I had waited much longer to get attention it could have been a different out come.

I was allowed home on the Monday and under the care of DN from Cos Lane surgery. I am writing this still under DN care. I would like to thank everybody from NHS 24  to the DN at Cos Lane including the receptionist at A& E who must have noticed something was really wrong and all the other health care workers who treated me. This is the 2nd operation within 3 months that has been conducted at Dunfermline which has left me with an infection and even though the care was good I will not be back there for an operation. Again thank you to everybody I have met from NHS Fife

Dear Purdy, Thank you for feeding back about your recent experiences when you had a surgical operation recently. You explained that you were pleased with the care you received when you became unwell afterwards at home, and required further urgent treatment.

I am sorry that you have had complications after your surgery at Queen Margaret Hospital and if you would wish to speak further about this and share more details with me I would be happy for you to contact me directly.

Kind regards and I wish you a continued recovery.
