"Absolute joke!"

About: St Mary's Hospital (Newport)

My father was referred in March 2018 for cataracts, his first appointment was postponed and he was finally seen in August 2018. He was told that there was another concern with his eyes and he would need to see a specialist, so once again we were waiting for another appointment. Since December 2018 he has had 3 appointment letters and 3 cancellation letters, his fourth appointment is for next week and what a surprise, today he received a cancellation letter and been told that his next appointment is not until May. This is totally unexceptable and I am absolutely disgusted that this has now happened four times. When we have tried to ring to find out what the hell is going on nobody answers the phone. I certainly would recommend to anyone who has to be seen by this department to ask to be referred to the mainland!

I am extremely sorry to hear of the experience that you and your father have had of the Ophthalmology department. I have shared your comments with the Senior Managers who would welcome the opportunity to look into this and discuss this with you and your father in person.

If you would like to discuss this with a member of the management team you can do so via the Care Group Quality Manager on 01983 822099 extension 2057; alternatively you can call the PALS team on 01983 534850 and they will ensure you are directed to the correct person.
