"Waiting areas were an ongoing issue"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Urology

(as the patient),

My Gp referred me to Hairmyres to see a urology consultant. I got an appointment to see Mr Nalagatla at Hairmyres outpatients. The dr was lovely and kind. However, I spoke to one of the nurses regarding the waiting area as it was overly cramp not a lot of space with a number of wheel chairs that there was no space for. I banged into chairs more than once and have bruises to prove it. They did say that the reception and waiting areas were an 'ongoing' issue that is looking to be resolved to which another staff member laughed and said oh they already tried something and gave up so its stuck the way it is.

Now first off that’s not a great way to speak especially in front of a patients

Secondly if this is indeed an ongoing issue why would one attempt be the only one made?

The waiting area is an issue surely there is something that can be done?

Back to the nurses were all amazing one who done my bloods lovely girl shoulder length brown hair Edie?? She took my bloods magic... never felt a thing. The girl who was on the clinic blonde hair was kind and warm. The department was busy but the nurses all were amazing.

Dear Johndoe123,

Thank you for your recent post on Care Opinion. I am delighted that you had a positive experience for yourself in terms of your consultation and the nursing staff. Our staff will be please with this positive feedback. We strive to deliver person centred care to all of our patients to ensure they have a good experience.

I am however sorry to here of your experience relating to the waiting room and how you had banged your leg and the way some of the nursing staff were communicating.

I will raise this with the staff in the area to discuss at their safety briefs and to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Relating to the environment in the area, I understand that the area can be extremely busy, however we do try to ensure the area is patient friendly. We are however looking to improve those areas, and apprecite your feedback.

Hope you are recovering well.

Kind Regards

Karen

Thank you for your reply.

I noticed that there seems to be alot of people making the same comments regarding the waiting areas, and that there have been plans in the works for some time. I feel that it is time now to act. Having spent time in the department when it is busy and seen how over crowded and congested it is, I don't feel that anyone could call the waiting are patient freindly. I dont mean to sound argumentive but your reply regarding the waiting area feels like a copout.
