"Minor Injuries"

About: Tiverton and District Hospital

After my son (7 years old) fell and hurt his arm it was apparant that something was casuing him a lot of pain and discomfort. On being reviewed by 2 nurses at Tiverton the decision was taken that the injury was a sprain and to manage with pain killers. After 3 days the pain was worse and had not improved at all so we returned for him to be given a very basic examination and told the very same information. After 7 days of him complaining of pain and not able to use his arm at all we decided to take him to A&E at Musgrove Hospital Taunton. Here they thoroughly assessed his arm and immediately said it required an Xray - this resulted in finding that he had indeed fractured his elbow significantly. To say I am unimpressed that my 7 year old son was walking around in agony having been seen twice by 4 seperate 'professionals' and miss diagnosed is disgraceful, would be a mild understatement. I am now glad he is recieving the treatment needed for his injury but I will never again be relying on the facilities at Tiverton Minor Injuries and would question anyone that does after this. Why the decision was taken not to Xray his arm was taken I will never know but it is really a sign of very poor practice. As for Musgrove I can't say anything but good things about the experience we had there except the waiting time . . . . of course.
