"We need more activities"

About: CAMHS Developmental Disorder (Northampton) / Bracken

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

When staff see that I am struggling they take me to the quiet room and try to talk to me.

St Andrew's sometimes when they investigate things they take a long time and then they don't tell the patient what they want to hear or what they want to know about what is going on.

There is not enough staff on the ward. We need more activities like going to theme parks, fun fairs and stuff like that.

We like to maintain privacy at times where patients are struggling and given the opportunity to discuss personal issues in a quiet area is conducive to this.

Sometimes the outcomes of investigations are not always the outcomes patients want to hear and the process of investigating them can take time as we want to make sure they are investigated thoroughly. Patients should be kept in the loop of what is going on however sometimes gathering information takes time. I will ensure that the turn around of investigations is in a timely manner and that patients are informed of progress as it happens and is appropriate.

We are currently looking at recruiting an activity coordinator. Unfortunately people we have previously recruited in to the job have accepted other jobs elsewhere. When we have found the right person they will be tasked with providing activities such as football.

Activities are also dependant on leave and how expensive they are. We want to make sure that all or as many patients as possible benefit from activities offered which may not always be theme parks.
