After delivery I was transferred to ward 27. I was shifted to a side room, rather than in main ward. Me and my husband were told by the midwife that 1 ml feed is far too much for our baby and later the next day the lady came to do teaching about breast feeding she told us we should only give 0.5 ml to our daughter. That is why my daughter hardly get any feed in two days.
Me and my husband constantly were telling midwives that our daughter seems dehydrated her lips were so dry and second night my daughter cried all night because of course she was hungry, unable to take Breast feed because she was premature and so tiny unable to latch onto the breast but none of midwives did anything.
Third day early morning when I was in tears and I phoned my husband to come because no one seems to listen to anything then one midwife weighed my daughter and realised that my daughter had lost 11.9 % weight in two days which is a lot, then they panicked and spoke to a paediatric doctor and told us now they will insert NG tube to give her feed. I feel that because of their wrong knowledge my daughter suffered. When I verbalise with midwife, me and my husband just can’t believe what she answered us back; she said everybody is learning. I'm sorry, we don’t expect staff on the floor dealing with newborn lives to not have basic knowledge.
After a week unfortunately I had second admission in same ward. Night midwife moved me in side room again which had no light and the heater was not working. When I brought this to her attention she replied to me she was afraid she can’t do anything. This is unacceptable, my daughter was premature underweight supposed to be keep warm to survive she was only 2.5 kg very tiny and her answer made me so upset. I found the midwife's behaviour very rude and careless.
