This complaint spans back to 3 years ago, and, without using defamation of an employee at the resource centre, it was to do with a member of staff I had known well for over 3 years at the time.
I suffer from schizophrenia and have done since was 21. The time in question was when I was 27 years old. I had never been sectioned under the mental health act before this point and had been in and out of hospital on multiple occasions, through my 20s, by my own voluntary admission. However, I believe this member of staff at this time helped to lead me to the event where I was sectioned. At the time, I felt it was seen to reflect badly on me by the resource centre, despite my previous reasoning to freely admit myself to hospital whilst I had been supported by other members of staff.
I phoned at 4pm on a Friday afternoon to explain to this member of staff that I wished to admit myself to hospital. My call was never returned. To be quite frank here, I don't want the excuses that I could have contacted the out of hours care team because anyone suffering from an episode will know trust is imperative! I thought I could trust this member of staff, but they left me waiting for a weekend which is a very long time in the throes of a schizophrenic episode.
In fact the member of staff only called me on the Monday because a concerned friend of mine had informed them that I had tried to take my own life at the weekend.
By the time Monday had come, I was aggressive and very distrustful of anyone within the resource centre. I was sectioned without even one word of acknowledgement from the staff I had been in contact with. In fact, it was completely different staff who sectioned me.
I have moved on from this now, but still feel my voice or my side of the story has never been heard or understood.
