We found each and every member of staff in Ward 7 very friendly, compassionate and nothing was too much trouble for them. They took time to explain the medical situation with both our parents. Our Mother was admitted in November 2017 and our Father in June 2018.
In the case of our Father, he was admitted originally with pneumonia but then due to underlying health issues, Doctor Claire explained to me that we were really looking at end of life care. She explained everything slowly and in detail to me which was easy to understand, I was writing down notes as she was talking me through the situation so I could relay to my three other siblings. As our Father's health deteriorated, he was moved into a side room and in particular, staff nurse Claire, staff nurse Margaret & a nurse called Agnes were particularly kind and sympathetic to my sister Fiona and I. We were allowed to use the staff kitchen which was very convenient and allowed us precious time to be with our dad.
On a Tuesday morning in June around 8.00 am nurse Catherine came into the room and explained what would happen/what to expect as we were approaching the end of Dad's life. Again everything was explained slowly and in terms my sister and I could understand. Quite honestly, if there is such a thing as a perfect death then this is what our Father had surrounded by caring, professional friendly staff with my sister and I at either side of him. We feel we can never thank the nursing staff enough, they definitely went above and beyond the call of duty.
