"A+e attendance with appendicitis"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital (Orpington)

I attended A+E in the early hours - was seen promptly by the UCC nurse and then doctor, who quickly had me referred to the surgeons.

The surgical team saw me reasonably quickly, explained the plan and I was recovering from my surgery just a few hours after I had walked through the door.

I was treated very well by the UCC staff, and the surgical, anaesthetic and nursing teams. Thank you!

If I had to make any constructive criticism, I would say:

- very few members of staff introduced themselves to me. I'm not that bothered about their names, but I do want to know their role in my care. Although none of the staff knew, I'm a doctor myself so most of the time knew what was going on, but I was scared and in pain and couldn't necessarily think clearly. If I wasn't clinical I would have been even more confused - and it would be nice for someone to say: I'm the surgeon, I'm from the operating theatre team, I'm your nurse, I'm an administrator.

- the food was reasonable, but there were very few fresh vegetables

- it would be nice to be given a list of food choices in advance, so that you don't have to make a snap decision about what you want to eat from a verbal list hurriedly spoken by one of the catering team

Many thanks for sharing your comments on your care.

I will pass your comments about staff introducing themselves onto the team and regarding the food ordering process. I do hope that you are recovering well.
