I feel I need to express my concerns about receiving treatment there.
I am concerned about news of fungus being found in the bathroom of a room in one of the wards used by Cystic Fibrosis patients.
Another concern I have is the poor ventilation in this ‘Super Hospital’. The rooms have no fresh air- no windows in the wards open. This creates a very unpleasant environment particularly in the summer, especially now as we are not allowed to use fans, due to cross infection concerns!
The ventilation system seems to have fundamental issues regarding infection control contributing to my stress and anxiety.
The general cleanliness of the wards is also a concern. I have had a consultant demand a deep clean because my room was so dirty, patients have been given dirty towels and bed linen. Personally I take in my own towels as I don’t trust the hospital ones to be clean.
Other people with CF I know have reached a stage where they are deferring treatment and making choices that may affect their long term health due to fear of contracting other bugs and infections on top of CF. We are already a vulnerable group feeling very let down by this hospital. Our CF team are amazing and work tirelessly on our behalf to try ensure that standards are met but I believe they are limited in what they can do.
I am hopeful that by raising these concerns with as many people as possible something will be done to resolve these issues before someone else ends up seriously ill.
Kind Regards
