"Priority To Telephone Bookings."

About: Yardley Wood Health Centre

Tried to book an appointment the previous evening, 08:01:18 to see a doctor the following morning first thing. (I work full time). Told to visit the surgery early next morning before 08:30 hours.

Arrived at 08:06 hours formed a Que of 4. The first lady who was with her husband was using a mobile, it transpired she was ringing the surgery reception.

She was ecstatic she had a live line commenting to us she had tried with her husband to ring about 20/30 time the previous evening.

She spoke to reception to find a suitable time for appointment and was given a time for 16:30 hours that afternoon. She asked if there were morning appointments and was told they had been taken.

The doors opened to the reception desk at 08:15 hours. I again joined the que behind the other 3 people. Eventually seeing the receptionist.

I explained my problem was wast told about a time slot at 16:30 hours.

I explained my problem and i worked full time.

I was told to go to A&E as the best alternative. It appears that any morning appointments go to anyone who can ring in as phones have a priority over a personal visit.

In the end i went to the drop in at Selly Oak, saw a superb helpful Doctor within 1 hour and managed to get to work for 11:00 hours.

Yardley Wood practice is in need of major surgery.

We thank you for allowing us to highlight some points from your comment.

Please remember that NHS resources are limited. However,in response to feedback, we have altered our appointment system, so more appointments are available within 3 days of a request. You were offered an appointment the same day, but declined due to your work. As a Practice, we also offer early appointments on Thursday mornings from 7am for that reason, to support people who work.

Our website highlights the fact, that our dedicated staff prioritise answering the phones from 8am when the demand is greatest. On line access is available at all times, with appointments being released daily too, so you may also want to consider these other options in future.
