"Help getting me back to work."

About: South Yorkshire Housing Association Limited / Working Win

(as the patient),

I had always done a physical, manual job. After having to leave work due to a back injury it really affected both me and my family both physically (my wife had to do more manual work around the house and also care for me) and mentally (seeing my wife doing the jobs I should be doing ate away at me) I reluctantly agreed to counselling and this helped slightly but the feeling of guilt was always there.

I was told by two doctors that I would never work again so when I was offered the chance to meet a WORKING WIN mentor I was sceptical but it was something different to do. I had an assessment and was helped with information on applications, CV's and interview techniques as well as being gently encouraged with what I had to offer an employer. After 3-4 months of fortnightly meetings I had a couple of interviews and started my job. I am not fit enough to work full time and I am still being supported by Working Win even though I am 10 weeks into my job.

The old saying "You only get out what you put in" I found to be true. If you are struggling at work with any health issue or you are wanting help to return to work then there is help for you, just try it for yourself.

Thank you so much for your lovely, positive story - and for taking the time to post it. We are so pleased that you found your involvement with Working Win to be so helpful, particularly after your original scepticism. It's so good for all of us at Working Win and SYHA to hear when things work out well for our customers.

I'm pleased that you are still being supported during the early stages of your new job and all best wishes to you for a successful future.
