"Compassionate, empathetic and kind"

About: Poole General Hospital / Breast surgery Royal Bournemouth General Hospital / Breast surgery

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with multi focal invasive breast cancer in late 2018 and went on to have a right side mastectomy, sentinel node biopsy and reconstruction with implant.

Throughout my treatment I have received nothing but the very best care from everyone - right from the ladies who did my initial mammogram, Poole breast care unit where my recall biopsies were done and the RBH and BPC.

Miss Hamo is incredible, she is compassionate, empathetic and kind but also very clear on the course of treatment you need and the pathway you’ll follow. Additionally she has been exceptionally kind and supportive for my family who were all touched by the time she took to keep them updated through my treatment.

My surgery was incredible, whilst clearly I didn’t want to experience this the surgery is so neat and exactly how she told me it would be.

The breast care nurses are superb, but in particular Olivia who could not be kinder or do more if she tried.

I feel totally supported and included by all the team

Dear ‘volansds39’

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis and subsequent need for reconstructive implant surgery, this must have been a worrying time for you and your family.

We are pleased to hear the care, compassion and empathy shown throughout your treatment, from all members of staff looking after you, was ‘the very best’.

It is especially pleasing to hear that, not only were you well looked after but your family members were kept well informed about your treatment. It can be a very anxious time for relatives waiting to hear news about how surgeries have gone or how quickly a patient may take to recover and having good communication from your consultant is a real help.

Your kind comments will be sent to the areas you have mentioned to be shared with the rest of the staff there.

Regards

Patient Experience Team
