"Leaving the car park with a Wheelchair still a..."

About: East Surrey Hospital

My elderly mother was admitted to A&E on 15th January and diagnosed with Shingles and a bacterial infection. She was transferred to Abinger Ward where she stayed for 10 days. The staff seem to be under a lot pressure and perhaps there is not enough of them. Unfortunately in an elderly care ward their patience seemed very limited and I was disappointed to hear a nurse speak quite sharply to a lady who was obviously fed up getting painful blood tests done when they couldn't find a vein. The nursing staff are few and far between and even a Doctor treating a patient couldn't find a nurse on the ward. There was one young man on the ward who was a credit to the hospital. He could always answer my questions, held the hand of the lady who was frightened of the blood test and was always very patient with everyone. Unfortunately I didn't get his name before my mother was discharged. Once again leaving hospital the wheelchair ramp to our section of car park 1 was blocked by a car parked in front of it and we had to take a much longer route to get to our car. I did mention this in a previous review in June 2018 and suggested repainting the hatching, the answer I received was that this would get attended to immediately but disappointed to see that this has not been done.

I am very concerned that the nurse taking the blood samples may have been one of the phlebotomy staff who routinely take blood samples on the wards.

Whether or not it was one the phlebotomists, I will be discussing your observations and concerns with them as the kind of behaviour that you have described is not acceptable.

Please accept my apologies and thank you for bringing this to my attention.
