"End of life Care"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Medicine for the Elderly

(as a relative),

My sister was admitted to Dr Grey's hospital in Elgin in December 2018, she had suffered with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy for some years and had been cared for at home by her husband and carers, Sadly she developed pneumonia and did not respond to antibiotics. After a discussion with her family and consultant it was decided to stop active treatment and concentrate on end of life care.

My husband and i traveled up from Yorkshire to sit with her and from the moment we stepped onto the ACE ward at Dr Gray's hospital we felt she was in the right place .

She had been in another ward two years previously and sadly her care had been nothing short of poor,so as a nurse myself i was very worried it would be the same this time.

What a difference , all the staff were smiling, polite and friendly, the care she got from all the staff from the Consultant, doctors, nurses and their teams was excellent. Her, husband and her two children who had been helping to look after her could not speak highly enough of her care and how all of us as a family had been looked after. Thank you so much for making what was an extremely difficult time for us all somewhat better knowing my sister was cared for like every patient should be.

Dear Sevensisters

Firstly can I convey my sincere condolences on the loss of your sister.

I was really sorry to read about your previous experience of the hospital however delighted that your sister and her family received such excellent person care delivered in the General Medicine Ward and ACE Unit.

I was especially heartened to read that staff were caring, smiling, polite and friendly and you felt that your sister received optimum care

Staff really appreciate positive comments such as these and I will share them with the staff concerned.

Thank you for taking the time to post these positive comments on care opinion at what must be a very difficult time for you and all your family
