I attended the biomechanics dept for an assessment of my foot health to check for imbalances and whether orthoses were needed as part of treatment for tendinopathy. I don’t take issue with the conclusion of the professional seen as they could be right, however I didn’t leave feeling confident in their assessment of my foot biomechanics; the professional observed my feet in several positions and very quickly spotted the problem and solution. In the past I’ve had biomechanics assessments elsewhere privately that included a detailed analysis of gait mechanics in motion using sensors attached to the body so was fairly confident with their analysis of posture and musculature use when running. I didn’t expect this level of detailed analysis at Bolton One, but I thought I’d at least be made to walk; if this wasn’t necessary, confidence was lacking. I was given a leaflet explaining that I’d need to wear a custom orthotic with the conditions of usage, no explanation was given as to how the orthoses will impact on my condition, types of shoes appropriate, etc.. I appreciate there is always a lot of uncertainty with any treatment but I’d like to have come away feeling that my condition was delicately handled with care and attention at the very least I feel they should offer a compulsory follow-up - they don’t and I feel professionals are left ignorant of outcomes.
