"Rheumatology Department"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Rheumatology (Joint conditions)

(as the patient),

I attended my first appointment in September 18. The doctor was unfriendly, impersonal and there was no patient care.  The doctor looked over my joints and psoriasis told me to get dressed and sat down at the computer, where I joined him. The doctor just slid a methotrexate pamphlet and said yes I can confirm you have psoriatic arthritis, then just went into what felt to me like a robotic mode showing no compassion. Really felt like I was a number not a human being who was in a lot of pain and was being diagnosed with a life long condition. The nurse that was in the room with me during the examination was so kind and could see that I was upset.

After starting the drug I have suffered awful side effects and the folic acid was increased to help counteract these. This didn't help and on my appointment on in Dec with the rheumatology nurse it was agreed I should switch to the injection form. This needed to be agreed with Dr. It obviously was, as I attended an appointment to give me training on using the needles etc.

In Jan I was at my local GP and they suggested I should follow up as I still hadn't heard from home care about my meds delivery. I did this the following day and I got a call back that afternoon saying that my prescription still hadn't been signed.  Its feels like the doctor doesn't care how the side effects are affecting me and causing me to be in bed for 4 or 5 days. I'm furious that this hasn't been followed through. It's a month since I was seen and the doctor he can't even sign a prescription.

Actually got a call 2 days later from another nurse telling me the same thing that the prescription hadn't been signed. Lack of communication there. Although I can not fault the care from all the nurses. I am hoping to be referred to another doctor.

Dear She49,

I am sorry to hear you have not had a positive experience with your Rheumatology consultations and subsequent problem with not receiving the prescribed drugs through Homecare. Please could you get in touch with me so that I can get your full name and date of birth so that I can investigate and also ensure you receive the drugs prescribed without further delay. I can also make sure you have the helpline telephone number if you have any further issues to ensure prompt resolution. Thank you for taking the time to feedback, this is not the service we intend to provide. If you get in touch with me today I will take forward straight away. Prescriptions are never left for days unsigned so I do need to fully investigate and resolve for you.

My contact details are tel: 01224 559578, email maxinecallow@nhs.net

Kind Regards

Maxine Callow
