"Treatment for a fractured vertebrae"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance The Great Western Hospital / Accident and emergency The Great Western Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

We called an ambulance for my mother, 85, as she was in a lot of pain on New Years day. The initial ambulance crew thought it was a whiplash injury and did not offer any treatment other than pain relief. As this did not ease the pain for my mother we called again, this time a paramedic came round and felt that my mother needed to be taken to hospital as he suspected a fractured vertebrae. My mother was taken to Swindon A&E.

There, a brilliant doctor, Lizzie, told us everything they were going to do, the results of the x-ray's and next steps for treating my mother. My mother was admitted to the trauma ward  to treat  the fractured vertebrae where she is currently being looked after very well.

Thank you for telling us about your mother’s experience of care at the Great Western Hospital.

We are pleased to hear your positive feedback on the care and treatment received from our staff.

Be assured we will pass on your comments to the A&E doctor and the Trauma Ward team who will very much appreciate that you took the time to get in touch.
