.Returned home yesterday after having a colonoscopy at Scarborough hospital. I have nothing other than praise for the quality of my treatment and the care I received. I was welcomed to the unit and advised on the procedure by the nurse, who explained in plain language and precise detail what would happen, went through my past medical history and what I could expect my reaction to be at every stage. Her care and thoroughness in making sure I was fully aware of what would take place during the procedure enabled me to remain calm and confident in the hands of a very professional team. The Endoscopist was really wonderful and so reassuring during the colonoscopy and the four nurses assisting her and caring for me during the colonoscopy were also so attentive to my situation. I can only say they made me feel cared for the whole time. I was particularly grateful for the frequent reassurance given and the explanation of what was happening to me and why. They made an extremely traumatic experience so much easier to cope with At the end of the examination the Endoscopist gave me a brief but very clear explanation of what she had found. I was further advised by the discharging nurse about what to do and who to contact if I experienced any discomfort..In conclusion I can only say the experience left me with the feeling I had received the best treatment possible from a highly efficient caring team from arrival to discharge. Please pass on my thanks and complete admiration to all involved. This unit is a credit to the Trust.
