"The Ward"

About: ASD &LD Division / Hawkins

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I would like the ward to help me get better things that I like. I would like help to get a new jacket. We play games like scrabble, football, pool and sometimes I go walking around the building but now I've got leave and I can go gardening at Hawkins Garden.

I like woodwork and I go to light industry to do this twice a week. I do art work because I like doing art. Sometimes I sit with other service users and play games with them, we go upstairs sometimes and play football in groups of 5 or 6 aside.

The other thing that is good is I see my family once a month.

I don't like it here because sometimes we get treated like kids - shouted at. It's only some staff I like here that are kind. I get jealous of people eating lots of sweets and snacks and I wish that once a week I could have more than I do but I have type 2 diabetes.

It's good to hear some of the things you like and enjoy.

The things you don't like are important to talk to your team or an advocate (or both) about.

Your comments about being treated like kids and shouted at were passed to the ward so this could be looked at.

Thank you for sharing your experience it helps us think about what works and what we need to look at and think about doing differently.
