"Taking up spaces meant for blue badge holders"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran

(as a service user),

I've been going to the Old Irvine Road Surgery every 6 to 8 weeks, and every time there are staff parked in the disabled bay. I have to see the person in receptionist to get a staff member to move a car so I can park.

Last time I came, I had an appointment for 1:30, so I arrived at 1:10 expecting this hassle. Luckily I found someone leaving a space and managed to park in time to find the podiatrist stepped outside the door looking for me. It's the same story every time I come here, always it's staff in the bay.

I have also heard that management are aware of the issue and have emailed staff to tell them not to do this, but they still keep taking up spaces meant for genuine blue badge holders. It seems a lot like these staff members don't care about us.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear cetusgg87,

I am a little confused (those who know me will say that it is no surprise). As you mention Podiatry, I wonder if you are attending the Old Irvine Road Clinic and not the GP practice. perhaps it is both at different times?

I have passed your post to the Practice Manager and to someone in the clinic and hopefully they can help to help resolve the issue. However, it may be helpful if you could contact me and provide some more details if this will suit you.

As I understand it, there are many different disciplines coming and going to and from the clinic and your additional information could help us solve this for you.

My email address is Eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk and my phone number is 01563 826222 (although I am not always at my desk).

Thank you for raising this with us,

Best wishes,

Eunice

It is the clinic I attend and it doesn't matter how many disciplines there are, a disabled parking bay is always a disabled parking bay and not a staff car park unless they have a blue badge.

Dear cetusgg87,

Thank you for letting me know it was the clinic, I agree with you entirely. We are Health Care Professionals and we should not be parking in a bay for blue badge holders.

It is helpful to know which premise we are talking about so we can address the problem. I mentioned the different disciplines because we have clearly failed resolve this satisfactorily previously and we may need to think differently as to how we resolve it. It may require us to identify specific 'perpetrators' and take it to their manager. Of course I would like to think that action will not be necessary.

Thank you again for raising this with us,

Best wishes,

Eunice
