"Waiting time hell!!!"

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill)

Its hard to put in to words what I'm going through it isn't at all good though. I've been on the waiting list to have a non-cancerous brain tumour removed since 26th March 2018. After having my pre-op assessment on June 6th 2018 (Having been moved forward 6 days from 12th June) I was thinking that things were moving along very nicely. Oh how wrong was I???!!!! I soon found out that my operation was likely to be September, then likely October, then November with a very confident plea that it would be this year. I then got told it would definitely be January, they were just waiting to get the date, but definitely January. I got an op date of 8th February 2019. To put that into context that is 319 days from 26th March 2018, or 45.5 weeks or 10 months and 13 days. Anyone just getting on to the the waiting list (That they deem as not urgent) and thinking they will hit their 18 week target, think again. They never contact you, its only ever you chasing them! It's a very stressful, frustrating and angry situation I find myself in. If I knew now what I knew back in March 2018, I would have chosen a different hospital. (Not that i was ever given a choice) No amount of phone calls or even speaking to PALS works. It really is waiting time hell, at least I've got a date now though, even if it was like pulling teeth to get one its just been months of "We don't know and we don't know when we will know, sorry about that". My bloods and MRSA swabs now need doing for a third time as they keep running out of vaildness (I think I just invented a word). There is only one reason I didn't give 1 star and that is because of a clinical nurse that is lovely, even if she has no say or can influence anything! Meanwhile my symptoms get worse. It may not be deemed urgent, but you try living with balance issues for 12 months or more, head aches reduced grip in your right hand and you tell me if you think 45.5 weeks is an acceptable waiting time!!! NOT HAPPY, their in hospital care better be top notch!!!!!!!

I am very sorry to hear about the difficulties that you are experiencing with neurosurgery.

I would like to put you in contact with one of our admissions managers who I know would like to be able to help. I have copied them your comments.

If you would like to speak to someone, please email me at Jessica.bush@nhs.net
