Arrived at A&E at Addenbrooke's at 18:30, we were waiting around 3 and a half hours to be seen by a gynecologist, as I was 5 weeks pregnant and I had bleeding. They took pregnancy test first and urine sample. Doctor called me after waiting for so long and asked to take urine sample again, as the one made when I first arrived was showing negative pregnancy test. That obviously was not correct. Then I gave urine and blood and the doctor confirmed I am pregnant. After that she asked me questions , how I feel, and explained what she will do. she was very nice and caring. Then she did examination , it was not pleasant and there was another doctor, I think it was a student with her... which was not very appropriate according to me in this situation. After the exam she said that it was possibly miscarriage, but she cannot confirm it 100% as there was no ultrasound scan machine in the hospital or the machine they have is too old and it might not be accurate. She said that they will call me from the early pregnancy unit the next day and they will do the ultrasound scan. I don't think this is acceptable, if this happens to you during the night and you need to see a doctor (only possible at the A&E), they cannot even check the hear beat on an ultrasound... even if I said I want to be examined on an ultrasound scan.

The next day they called me from the early pregnancy unit of the hospital saying I don't need a scan as from the blood test they have taken , they have seen that the pregnancy hormone levels are too low, and therefore it was a miscarriage. I just wanted to be checked on an ultrasound to confirm that... unfortunately they did not do it. Just an advice for every woman having the same issue... I felt very bad after all that, and the first time I rang the early pregnancy unit just to ask if I can be seen by a doctor, because i have bleeding, they explained to me that they are not walk-in center and I need to stay at home, even if it is miscarriage, as they cannot help me. The only thing they can do was to talk on the phone with me. That is definitely not acceptable for a woman that just found out she is pregnant and has bleeding in the 5th week of pregnancy!
