"Unsatisfactory treatment"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency Lincoln County Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

The service on welton ward was great

It was the whole process from a&e and then not being able to have a scan on my back immediately to assess what damage had occurred

Then more delays to get images checked

To been seen eventually 5 days later by a doctor from another city, who was great initially and I was hopeful for recovery

Then I went home for half an hour to be told to come back in to ward as the doctor wanted to see me again

We came back straight away and then waited 3 hrs for said doctor, only to be told they had gone back to their city, leaving another doctor to tell me that they had decided that an operation would make no difference and I was duly discharged with a follow up outpatient appointment to be sent through

I am left with a paralysed foot which to me is a huge life changing issue and feel that maybe if my care was initially handled in a different manner - I think the severity of my injury was not picked up upon and there may have been a different outcome if it was

No one was able to answer the questions I had about recovery or dealing with this injury if it is indeed to be permanent

I feel let down and traumatised by the whole incident

I realise that not everyone has the outcome they want and not every problem can be fixed but there are for me , an awful lot of " what ifs?"

Dear jofc

I am very sorry to hear you have had such a poor experience of A and E especially at such a traumatic time.

I would very much like to look into you attendance further, if you would like to contact me via our PALS team pals@ulh.nhs.uk and please quote CO608902, they will then send me your details so I can investigate what happened while you were in the department

Regards

Tracy

Dear Jofc,

I am truly sorry if you were let down by the Emergency Department and for any inappropriate delays that occurred during your assessment and imaging. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement in the care we provide, it would be beneficial if you would contact our PALS team to provide your personal details and allow me to review the specifics of your Emergency Department care. This will allow our team to learn from any aspects which were below our high standards of expectation and enable me to provide you with any appropriate specific apologies directly.

Dr Megan Kelly MB ChB FRCEM

Consultant, Head of Service for Emergency Medicine, Lincoln County Hospital

Update posted by Jofc (the patient)

Hello and thank you for both responses.

I will take your advice and will contact “pals” today

Unfortunately there is no improvement in my condition and I’m still awaiting a follow up appointment to come through (although I believe this is not from Lincoln)

It’s gives me slight hope that maybe someone is listening and I eventually may have some relief from my pain and desperation

Yours

Jfc
